HARARE-BASED upcoming gospel outfit, Girls of Transformation, believes that girls can make it in life despite criticism and stigma.
She spoke following the release of their debut album titled ‘Chokwadi Zita RaJesu,’ which has six spiritually uplifting tracks.
The all-female group aims to bring back lost souls to the house of Jesus Christ as they sing using traditional drums (ngoma) and hand rattles (hosho).
In an interview, the group’s chairperson, Tadiwanashe Chimanga, said:
“I want to take this opportunity to encourage other talented girls not to give up even when you are being criticised.
“I had a passion for music since I was nine years old, which prompted me to participate in various singing activities.
“Tafadzwa Murindagomo, who is my mentor, noticed my talent and advised me to pursue music.”
Outlining the group’s vision, Chimanaga said their aim was to bring people closer to God.
“Girls of Transformation was formed in May with the aim to bring change in our church since many groups, in our church, were dominated by males.
“Our album is called Chokwadi Zita Ra Jesu, with six tracks Ivo Vatsvene, Demo, Chokwadi Zita Ra Jesu, Taura Mweya and Mbwende featuring Dovaredenga Minamato.
“All these songs encourage us to be more prayerful and to trust God in every situation of our life,” she said.
Added Chimanga:
“We are in the process of recording our first videos as we are being assisted and advised by Beauty Chimanga .
“She also provides finance and accompanies us to shows whenever we get an opportunity to showcase our talent.
“We chose ngoma nehosho because we are from the Methodist Church and that’s our tradition in our church, but we also sing acapella.”
