Mutare Sports Club Rugby recently hosted the Discovery Ambulance Services Mutare Sports Club Rugby Awards, an evening dedicated to celebrating commitment, passion, and outstanding performances throughout the 2025 rugby season.
The night opened with heartfelt remarks from the current rugby administration, who paid tribute to all players and officials who have proudly worn the Mutare Sports Club badge since the club’s formation in 1982.
Their message of gratitude and reflection set the tone for an evening rooted in tradition, unity, and recognition.
Apart from representatives of title sponsors – Discovery Ambulances – owned by David Munowenyu – himself a former rugby and basketball player at Mutare Boys’ High School, other corporate partners, included Sangold Minerals, Škoda Motors, Augustine Mberi, Katsaura Driving School, Mutare Sports Club Restaurant, and Zimbabwe Car Breakers also graced the event.
Award winners included – Ishe Ncube (players’ player of the year), Brandon Nenhowe (most improved player), Simbarashe Chapindura (rookie of the year), Mudiwa Chahweta (best forward of the year), Brendon Jameson (best backline player of the year), Nick Mupeti (most dedicated player) and Nyamundanda (top try scorer).
Try of the year award recipient was Simbarashe Chapindura, while the unsung heroes of the game were veteran gaffer, Mackenzie Munesti and Augustine Mberi.
Manicaland Rugby Board chairman, Casper ‘Belt’ Bandi said the awards were meant, not only individual excellence, but also the collective spirit that defines Mutare Sports Club rugby.
“The awards recognised, not only individual excellence, but also the collective spirit that defines Mutare Sports Club Rugby. From emerging talents making their mark to seasoned players demonstrating unwavering commitment, each accolade reflected the club’s core values of resilience, teamwork, and pride in the badge,” he said.
As the evening drew to a close, one message stood out clearly, Mutare Sports Club rugby continues to thrive through the dedication of its players, the loyalty of its supporters, and the steadfast backing of its sponsors.
While the 2025 season will be remembered for achievements on the field, the awards night served as a powerful reminder that the club’s greatest triumph lies in the unity and passion of its rugby family.
