THE Grain Marketing Board (GMB) has cleared all outstanding arrears for grain delivered during the 2021/22 marketing season, boosting the morale of farmers.
This has come as a relief to farmers seized with either planting or tendering crops planted this farming season.
The grain utility has paid a total of $47 604 353 038 for all grains.
GMB finance director Mr Clemence Guta told The Manica Post on Wednesday that farmers not yet paid need to regularise their banking details.
“We are happy to report that GMB has fully paid for all the grains delivered by the farmers during the 2021/22 marketing season. However, there are some farmers who are still to receive their payments for various reasons, among them the low KYC (Know Your Customer) accounts, hence the funds could not go through. Some farmers had dormant accounts which they use once a year resulting in them being closed.
“Others also provided wrong banking details – they gave us bank card numbers instead of their banking accounts. We are therefore inviting all those who have not received their payments to visit their nearest GMB depot and regularise their banking details,” said Mr Guta.
Mr Guta also attributed the challenge to some farmers’ bank accounts that do not take huge deposits.
He encouraged the farmers to use the parastatal’s farmer card to access payments spontaneously.
The grain utility was paying $32 000 for a tonne of maize, $38000 for traditional grain and $48 000 for wheat and soya bean after the treasury provided over $60bn to GMB last season’s grain deliveries.
