adminAlbert Mandizha said the Ministry of Agriculture, Mechanisation and Irrigation Development’s gesture was going to improve communication and dissemination of information between farmers and the company.
GMB, he said, had been facing mobility challenges.
Mr Mandizha said farmers required information on grain deliveries, payments and inputs availability among other things.
This, he said, could only be efficiently communicated if staff members were mobile.
“The main purpose of these motorbikes is for monitoring programmes and schemes such as the grain loan and inputs distribution among other things,” he said.
“We have serviced the motorbikes and 57 of the 100 will be dispatched to different provinces in the next two weeks.”
GMB also trained 18 staff members on the handling and maintenance of the motorbikes.
“We want to ensure those using the motorbikes are technically competent and we have also procured protective clothing for those using the motorbikes,” he said.
The Ministry last year donated 100 motorbikes to the police anti-stock theft unit to assist officers in dealing with the cases.
The GMB was established in 1931 to ensure food security in Zimbabwe with particular reference to maize and wheat.
