FROM hero to zero? That’s the question hovering over Lynoth “Sonjy” Chikuhwa, last season’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Golden Boot winner, who has shockingly failed to score a single goal in 13 matches since signing for Scottland FC.
Yes, you read that right. ZERO goals in 13 games for the man who terrorised defences in Bosso colours just months ago.
Last year, by Match day 14, Sonjy had already found the back of the net seven times. Fast forward to today, and all he has to show is a record of half-game cameos, frustrated fans, and questions about what went wrong.
Sources close to the striker say even he’s starting to admit that something is seriously off.
“It’s been tough,” said one teammate who asked not to be named. “He’s not getting full games, but even in those minutes, he looks like a shadow of himself. Confidence is low.”
At Highlanders, Sonjy was the man with the golden touch, notching 17 goals to claim the league’s top scorer crown. But since moving to Scottland, it’s been all silence in front of goal.
Here’s how Sonjy’s fall from grace looks in brutal detail:
lMatch 1: Started vs Triangle United, played 70 minutes
lMatch 3: Subbed on vs Ngezi, played 8 minutes
lMatch 4: Started vs Bosso, 68 minutes, no goal
lMatch 5: Subbed on vs Bikita Minerals, 12 minutes
lMatch 6: Subbed on vs Yadah Stars, 7 minutes
lMatch 9: Started vs Herentals, lasted 53 minutes
lMatch 13: Started vs Chicken Inn, played 55 minutes before match was abandoned
In total, Chikuhwa has only clocked 273 minutes out of a possible 1 170 minutes this season. He hasn’t played a full 90-minute match even once.
What makes it worse? His former club Highlanders is thriving while he struggles to make an impact.
Last season, Sonjy had already smashed six goals by Match day 13 and added his seventh in Week 14 against GreenFuel. Now, the boots that once blazed are just collecting grass stains.
“It’s like watching a lion forget how to hunt,” said a disappointed fan at Barbourfields. “We know what he’s capable of. This? This isn’t Sonjy.”
To be fair, he’s not completely off the team sheet. The striker has made appearances, but never finishes games. It’s a confusing situation that has left many wondering if the move to Scottland FC was a mistake.
“Something’s not clicking,” said one PSL analyst. “It’s either tactical misuse or psychological pressure, but whatever it is, he needs to snap out of it soon.”
As Week 14 rolls in, all eyes are on Chikuhwa. Will he finally find the back of the net? Or is the Golden Boot champ fading into obscurity?
Only time and goals will tell.
