SIMBISA delivered the biggest statement of the weekend after hammering Ostrich 7-1 to maintain their dominance at the summit of the Bulawayo Corporates Social Soccer League standings.
The runaway log leaders stretched their tally to 27 points from 10 matches following another ruthless attacking display that left rivals chasing shadows in the title race. Simbisa have now scored an impressive 32 goals while conceding only seven.
The weekend fixtures produced plenty of goals and movement across the table as teams continued to battle for crucial points.
Second-placed Value Gas kept pressure on the leaders after edging Warehouse Distribution 3-2 in a dramatic comeback victory. Warehouse had raced to a 2-0 lead at half-time before Value Gas turned the match around after a tactical substitution introduced Dumisani Dube, who struck in the 60th and 70th minutes to restore parity. Man of the match Prince Chuma then grabbed the winner to complete a memorable fightback and keep the pressure on Simbisa.
Overnight Express also remained firmly in the title conversation after defeating Speed Shipping 2-1. Overnight now sit third on 22 points and still have a game in hand over some of the teams above them.
Overnight Express are sweeping through the campaign quietly but noticeably. They have gone nine games unbeaten and they are gunning to the title as well.
The team’s manager, Tamutsa Shumba said they were impressed by the level of play.
“We give credit to the boys for showing a good display of football. Our game with Speed Shipping was more like a Derby and we did well to earn maximum points.
“Going forward, we want to make sure we maintain the momentum and use every game to rise in the log standings, said Shumba.
Hope continued their fine form with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Zimtile. The win saw Hope move to 21 points and strengthen their push in the top four race.
At the lower end of the table, Proton boosted their survival hopes with a comfortable 2-0 win over Coca-Cola, while NUST Academy collected maximum points after beating ZETDC 2-1.
Elsewhere, Grills and Lonestar shared the spoils in an 2-2 draw, while Rydings Auto registered a convincing 4-2 victory over Evergold.
With the competition entering a decisive phase, attention now turns to whether Simbisa can maintain their blistering pace at the top as challengers continue to pile pressure from behind.
