Goals galore in ProBhora League

ENTERTAINMENT has been on offer, spiced up by goals galore, as the latest phenomenon to hit development football in Zimbabwe – the ProBhora League – gathers momentum.

It was match-day 2 in the Under-21 league, yesterday at Heritage School in Harare with two of the best schools of excellence, Aces Youth Soccer Academy and Legends Football Academy, fittingly featuring in a 2-2 stalemate in the pick of the day’s proceedings.

Legends, who got their goals from Denzel Chakaza and Nixon Mandaza, twice fought back to cancel the Aces lead that had come via brace from forward Quinton Mudzinga.

There was also a five-goal thriller in the match in which Heritage through goals by Junior Chidzomba, twice and Mark Mutosha, edged Scorpions, who had tried to fight back via Vincent Mkonto and Valentine Muzadzi.

But beyond just the goals and the entertainment galore on offer is the commendable lead taken by the capital city’s elite academies to help drive development of the country’s biggest sport.

Just like at last Saturday’s lively Match-day One games, the organisers of the league have also made it a point to observe the standards required by the Confederation of African Football at competitions of this level including ensuring that there are adewauete athlete safeguarding officers.

The league confirmed as much in a statement after successfully launching the 2026 competition.

“The organisation was nothing short of top-notch, ensuring a safe and elite environment for the players through the presence of referees, ambulance services, and dedicated safeguarding officers, mirroring the highest standards of the game,’’ ProBhora League said.

“The competitive spirit was high, and the quality of play was matched by technological innovation, as every match was livestreamed globally by SportsAi, allowing fans and scouts alike to witness the action in real-time.

“The scoreboard told a story of dominance and skill: Aces Youth Soccer Academy triumphed 6-1 over Total Academy, while BN Academy secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory against Real Saints.

“In a high-scoring affair, Legends Football Academy defeated Scorpions Soccer Schools 11-1, and Athletes Sphere clinical finishing led to a 5-2 win over Heritage Real Oviedo.

“However, beyond these individual scorelines, the true winner was football development.

This league represents a powerful collaboration between Zimbabwe’s leading academies—including Aces, Legends, BN Academy, and Athletes Sphere—who have long been the pioneers of talent identification in the country.

“By banding together, these institutions are ensuring a sustainable and elite pathway for the next generation of Zimbabwean talent, proving that when the best in the business unite, the future of the national game is in safe hands’’ added ProBhora League.

The league also believe that the launch of their Under-21 division will prove that there is structured development of the game in the country.

“The ProBhora League is officially debunking the myth that there is no structured football development in Zimbabwe.

“This innovative league is a bold, motivational statement that the country’s top academies have always been and remain, the traditional engine room for Zimbabwe’s greatest footballing exports.

“The pedigree of these academies is undeniable, having developed iconic players such as Khama Billiat, Knowledge Musona, Emmanuel Jalai, Douglas Mapfumo, Munashe Garananga to name but a few, who have all graced junior and senior national levels.

“International football giants have already recognised this excellence.

Global affiliations such as Legends Academy with Everton Football Club, Athletes Sphere with Villarreal, and Heritage with Real Oviedo prove that the world’s elite see these academies as the true future of Zimbabwean football.

“While many local clubs have struggled to secure such prestigious partnerships—often due to a culture of recycling older players—these academies are breaking boundaries by focusing on the 17–20 age group to bridge the critical gap between youth and professional ranks.

“ProBhora is setting a new standard for Zimbabwean sport. By providing a quality, safe environment on well-prepared fields with professional match officials, the league ensures that young cadets play under conditions that mirror the professional stage.

“The league is also leading the way in technological innovation through a landmark partnership with SmrtSTATS, a performance analysis company that provides advanced data and video scouting.

“This level of statistical insight is a progressive leap forward that even the local Premier Soccer League has yet to achieve. With matches livestreamed to the diaspora via SportsAi, the ProBhora League is inviting the world to see the immense talent available in Zimbabwe.

“This is more than just a league; it is a movement to professionalise the “beautiful game” from the ground up’’.
