WHAT started as a family feud over a missing goat spiraled into a savage attack; leaving one brother bruised, bloodied and battered, and the other behind bars!
In a jaw-dropping case that rocked Gwenhamo village under Chief Masunda in Zvishavane, Lewis Sibanda turned from brother to brutal attacker after accusing his sibling, Francis Sibanda, of stealing a goat.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe, the brothers clashed at the gate of their homestead on 19 April 2025. Things got heated, and Lewis snapped. He grabbed a log and launched a full-on assault.
“Francis tried to run but tripped and fell. That’s when Lewis rained blows on his head, chest, and back, leaving him unconscious,” reads part of the chilling court statement.
A nearby villager rushed to the scene and stopped the brutal beatdown just in time. The victim was rushed to Zvishavane District Hospital, while Lewis was cuffed and hauled before the courts.
Justice caught up with the hot-headed goat guardian and he was sentenced to 12 months in prison. Two months were suspended for good behaviour. That means he’ll be behind bars for 10 months of reflection and goatless days.
In Gwenhamo, they say blood is thicker than water, but apparently not thicker than goat stew!
