“THE king asked, ‘Is there not someone left from Saul’s family, that I may extend God’s kindness to him?’ Ziba said to the king, ‘One of Jonathan’s sons is left; both of his feet are crippled.’
“The king asked him, ‘Where is he?’ Ziba told the king, ‘He is at the house of Makir, son of Ammiel in Lo Debar.’” — 2 Samuel 9:3-4
This month, I will keep reminding you about the God who remembers.
Today, I want to share with you a message of hope and encouragement from the story of Mephibosheth, the son of Jonathan and grandson of King Saul. He was living in Lo Debar, a place of obscurity and forgottenness.
Mephibosheth was crippled in both feet; he felt isolated and abandoned, seemingly far from the grace and favour of the king’s court. However, little did he know that his life was about to change, for the king, in his kindness, sought him out to extend God’s grace and favour. This is testament to the character of our God — the God who remembers.
You see, just as Mephibosheth might have felt forgotten in Lo Debar, many of us here today may be feeling forgotten in the midst of our struggles and challenges. We might feel crippled, unable to move forward and stuck in a place of obscurity.
But I am here to remind you that our God is a Creator who remembers. He remembers His promises, His people and His plans for each one of us. Mephibosheth’s story is a beautiful illustration of God’s faithfulness and His divine ability to lift us from a place of obscurity to a position of honour. Despite Mephibosheth’s limitations, the king sought him out and brought him to the palace, where he was welcomed as a member of the royal family.
This is a reminder that no matter how forgotten or insignificant we may feel, God sees us, remembers us and has a plan to elevate us.
Beloved, your time of remembrance is coming. Just as Mephibosheth was lifted from Lo Debar to the king’s table, God is preparing a place of honour for each one of us.
Your time of shame and reproach is coming to an end.
Your current situation does not define your future. The God who remembers is working behind the scenes, orchestrating a divine turnaround in your life.
Let us hold on to the promise made in Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Our Lord is a God of hope and He is faithful to fulfil His promises.
Take comfort in the story of Mephibosheth and the faithfulness of our God.
No matter how forgotten or isolated we may feel, our God remembers us and has a glorious future in store for each one of us. Your time of remembrance is coming. Amen!
