HE first escaped unharmed in an accident and on Sunday scored the goal which won his club maximum points in Rusape.
Emmanuel Mandiranga was the CAPS United hero in their 1-0 win over Cranborne Bullets at Vengere on Sunday.
It could all have been different had he not escaped unhurt after the car he was driving was involved in an accident on Thursday last week.
“The past week was a bit difficult. I was involved in a car accident,” he told H-Metro.
“My car was left in a bad state although I escaped unhurt.
“I thank God for that.
“On top of that, Ian’s (Nyoni) mother was also involved in an accident and she is admitted in hospital and is reported to be in a bad state.”
He added:
“So, going into the game against Cranborne against that background was a big challenge, and I knew a win would make us feel better,” said Mandiranga.
“Of course, I scored the only goal of the game, but it was a team effort and that should be appreciated.
“I dedicated the goal to Ian’s mother as we pray that she fully recovers soon.
“Our prayers are also with Ian that he stays strong in these trying times.
“We are looking forward to our remaining matches and I am still hoping to get into double figures to reach my personal target of 10 goals this season.
“The goal against Cranborne gave me a chance to reach my target,” he said.
It’s a season CAPS United would want to quickly forget.
They fell from being one of the title favourites, at the beginning of the season, to fighting relegation for virtually all season.
Coach Lloyd Chitembwe will surely one day publicly confess how difficult it was facing the media every week following seven consecutive losses.
He even had to address fans at the National Sports Stadium, begging them to calm down, as they demanded that heads must roll, after yet another defeat.
Last week their skipper, Phineas Bamusi, told H-Metro they are now targeting wins in their remaining games.
They have now won two on the trot and their 1-0 win over Cranborne Bullets on Sunday.
