PRESIDENT Mnangagwa will remain in power until he accomplishes his Vision 2030 agenda because his leadership is divinely ordained, his Special Advisor, Dr Paul Tungwarara, has said.

Dr Tungwarara made the remarks in Brundish suburb in Chinhoyi on Monday during the funeral service for Reverend Innocent Chitanda of the Apostolic Faith Mission of Zimbabwe (AFMOZ).

Rev Chitanda, who was also a member of the ruling Zanu PF’s affiliate, Pastors4ED, collapsed and died last Friday morning.

He was buried on Monday.

Addressing mourners, Dr Tungwarara said the church had a Biblical obligation to support national leadership, adding that President Mnangagwa’s rise to power and continued tenure were part of God’s plan for Zimbabwe.

“It is Biblical that you, as the church, must support the existing government. There is nothing wrong with you supporting and praying for President Mnangagwa, as God ordained him,” he said.

“We have other ambitious leaders. It will remain a dream until President Mnangagwa fulfills his vision.”

He added that the President’s leadership, which began in 2017 following the resignation of the late former President Robert Mugabe, had been accompanied by a national vision anchored on economic reforms, re-engagement, infrastructure rehabilitation and industrial revival.

The transition paved the way for President Mnangagwa to lead the party into the 2018 elections, where he secured his first full term.

He was re-elected in 2023, reaffirming Zanu PF’s mandate to pursue Vision 2030, the national roadmap aimed at achieving an upper-middle-income economy.

The founding chairperson of Pastors4ED, Prophetess Dr Cllr Idirashe Dongo, urged congregants to remain steadfast behind the national leadership, saying the church had a critical role in praying for peace and development.

AFMOZ president, Dr Cossum Chiyangwa, echoed similar sentiments, adding that unity between the church and Government was essential as Zimbabwe accelerates progress toward Vision 2030.
