THERE seems to be no love lost between MTN Premier League of Swaziland outfit, Manzini Sundowns and their former coach, Godfrey Tamirepi than the now cliche a?amicably parting waysa? if the recent spat is anything to go by.
True to the a?two is company, three is a crowda?, the recent stimulus is Matsapha United coach, Saul Chaminukaas dedication of his 1-0 win over Sundowns in the SwaziBank Cup quarter-finals to a?his boya? Tamirepi.
Sundowns have taken offence in a post match comment in which the victorious Chaminuka literally took no prisoner in Tamirepias firing after being quizzed on Matsapha Unitedas revenge victory.
In December, United were eliminated from the SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup by a similar scoreline.
a?Yes, it was a revenge for the Ingwenyama Cup defeat but it was also two-fold. I also had to do it for my boy Godfrey Tamirepi the former Manzini Sundowns coach. I know him and I personally know what happened and it will not be proper to say he failed. Something happened and my boy Goddie this is for you as well,a? said Chaminuka.
For many this would sound as one of the normal post match comments just like Free State Starsa Mohammed Abas Anusa dedication to a?my wife and girlfrienda? but for Sundowns it evoked frothing anger followed by a a?shut upa? call.
a?This is a serious statement that is not only defamatory to Sundowns but has a potential of bringing football into disrepute.
a?The coach Saul Chaminuka has no right to meddle into Downsa affairs whether our former coach and his compatriot is a friend or not.
a?Geoffrey (Godfrey) left Swaziland in peace having agreed mutually with the team to cut ties and cancel the contract,a? read part of the statement.
Furthermore, Sundowns set up an investigation team to look into the defeat and threatened to consult their legal advisors.
While Matsapha United first offered an apology for the comments, coach Chaminuka opted for self gag on further dedications preferring to say even Swazi coaches were welcome to coach in Zimbabwe.
Tamirepi, now assistant coach at Triangle, laughed off the allegations made by his former pay masters.
a?That was a phase that passed and I am now at Triangle. If anyone wants to dedicate a match to me they must do it freely. I have worked with Saul, he has been my brother and my mentor,a? he said.
Tamirepi joined the Swazi outfit in July last year lasting just 10 games.
