TRADITIONAL powerhouses, Gokomere Primary, Victoria Junior and surprise package Runyararo Primary School have each produced 12 pupils with four units in the 2014 Zimsec Grade Seven results released this week.Provincial Education Director Zadius Chitiga said while the analysis is still ongoing, it has been noted that three schools were at the top in the province as they have a greater number of pupils with distinctions.

“We’ve done our preliminary analysis and found out that Gokomere, Victoria Junior and Runyararo Primary schools have done exceptionally well. These three schools, all from Masvingo district, have each produced 12 pupils with four units,” said Chitiga.

“However, Victoria Junior has many pupils with five units compared to others after it produced 24 compared to Gokomere’s 22 and Runyararo that produced 18 pupils. Shakashe Primary has the same number of pupils with five units but have six pupils who scored four units.”

He said Hellen McGhie Primary School also produced six pupils with four units and 18 pupils with five units.

Chitiga said preliminary analysis shows that most schools in the province produced good results.

“We’ve encouraging results for the province although the statistics that we have for now, are random.  We’re yet to do proper analysis of the results but what I can say is that most schools have performed fairly well and the traditional powerhouses like those I’ve mentioned, have done remarkably well,” he said.

Chitiga said even Chingwizi schools recorded good results despite the challenges faced by most schools in the area.

He attributed the improved performance to what he described as a number of positive factors in the education sector.

“The positive factors include increased qualified and motivated teachers, availability of textbooks among others,” he said.

The government availed textbooks in 2010 and as such most pupils are no longer sharing textbooks as was the case before.

Meanwhile, Thornhill Primary School in Gutu which produced a zero percent pass rate in 2013 under the administration of ousted head, James Munyaradzi, has posted a 20 percent pass rate.
