Four suspects recently fatally attacked a 47-year-old Gokwe man with axes and machetes in a suspected revenge attack.

Midlands provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko, confirmed the death of Mr Nelson Silemba of Fandhwana Village under Chief Njelele in Gokwe South.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police have launched a manhunt for four suspects who attacked a fellow villager with machetes and axes at Gababe Business Centre, Gokwe, on October 25 at about 6 pm,” he said.

“The victim succumbed to injuries he sustained during the assault whilst being taken to hospital.”

Insp Mahoko said allegations are that in August 2025, Silemba was allegedly assaulted by Blessed Gwinya, Wuzu Moyo, both of Tswere Village, Munashe Makore of Chaturunga Village, all under Chief Njelele and Loyal Mpofu, whose address is not known.

He said that as a result of the attack, Silemba had the middle finger of his left hand amputated.

Insp Mahoko said police efforts to locate the four suspects were still underway.

“The same suspects were summoned to a community court where they were fined two cattle each, and the cattle were collected from their homestead during their absence,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said on October 25, Gwinya, Moyo, Makore and Mpofu arrived at Gababe Business Centre aboard a Caravan vehicle and found Silemba watching soccer on TV.

“The four teamed up and assaulted Silemba using matchets, axes and a knife before leaving him lying on the ground,” he said.

“Well-wishers and relatives tried to rush him to the hospital, but he unfortunately died while on the way.”

Insp Mahoko called upon members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the four to notify the nearest police.
