Gokwe road accident victims identified

POLICE have identified the five people who died when a vehicle they were travelling in burst its left rear tyre and overturned at the 130km peg along the Kwekwe-Gokwe road.

National police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi identified the deceased as Prisca Nyoni , 35, Rosemary Maparara, 36, Fegason Machicha, 21, all of Nyamazana Village under Chief Njelele in Gokwe, Promise Hapazari, 6, and Michell Chibasa , 16, of Sengwa School in Gokwe.

He said the vehicle was coming from Kwekwe going to Gokwe when the accident occurred at around 11.45AM on Monday.

A Nissan Vannette vehicle they were travelling in burst its left rear tyre, veered off the road to the right and overturned before landing on its wheels near Green Diamond Hotel in Gokwe.

Five people died on the spot and nine others were rushed to Gokwe District Hospital.

The driver Farai Maseko, 21, was driving the vehicle with 13 passengers on board.

Chief Supt Nyathi urged motorists to avoid speeding and to observe road rules and regulations to safeguard lives.
