GOVERNMENT has commissioned a fire tender for Gokwe Town Council as the Second Republic continues to walk the talk in terms of inclusive development which aligns with Vision 2030.
This new fire tender is part of the 133 units acquired by the Second Republic from Belarus to improve service delivery and community safety across the country.
Midlands Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Owen Ncube recently commissioned the fire tender at Gokwe Town Council offices.
Addressing Gokwe town councillors and management, residents and Government officials, Minister Ncube said the Second Republic is pushing its development thrust and modernising service delivery.
“We are guided by President Mnangagwa’s ‘Call to action, No compromise to service delivery’ blueprint and the mantra of leaving no one and no place behind. In the past Gokwe Town Council used improvised fire tenders with limited efficiency and effectiveness,” he said.
Minister Ncube commended President Mnangagwa’s engagement and re-engagement with friendly nations like China, Belarus and Russia which has enabled modernisation and mechanisation of agriculture, mining, construction, health and civil protection efforts as the country seeks an upper-middle-income society earlier than 2030.
The minister said despite the illegal economic sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe by the USA and its Western allies, Government continues to roll out programmes that benefit citizens.
“This fire tender is part of the 133 fire tenders acquired by the Second Republic to enable local authorities to swiftly respond to fire outbreaks, road traffic accidents as well as other emergencies within and outside their areas of jurisdiction,” he said.
“Furthermore, the health sector received 18 medical air search and rescue helicopters from the Russian Federation to enhance timely health service delivery which attests to our mutually beneficial bilateral relations.”
Minister Ncube urged all local authorities to enhance disaster mitigation and response mechanisms by ensuring no life or property is lost while fire tenders and ambulances are neatly parked at their offices.
“With the heavy rains being received in the Midlands Province, I implore all local authorities to attend to grass cutting, beautification, drainage systems, waste management, pothole filling, public lighting, recreational facilities, housing development and work spaces for SMEs to propel local economic development and attract investors, “ he said.
Minister Ncube also urged local authorities to emulate the work ethics of the New Dispensation which is leading by example.
“Given the foregoing, attainment of a prosperous and empowered upper middle-income society under President Mnangagwa is achievable as overwhelmingly endorsed under Resolution Number 1 which the unwavering Midlands Province resolutely and steadfastly supports,” he said
