A Kadoma-based gold dealer is in trouble for allegedly stealing from a foreign national who had visited Zimbabwe looking for investment opportunities.

The court heard that sometime in 2018, the complainant, Hanan Shansan Alowi, from the Netherlands, wanted to buy gold.

Alowi is a licenced gold buyer.

She heard that Alfred Phiri was capable of assisting her.

The two met and Phiri was given US$25 000 on December 14, 2018, under an agreement that he would deliver the gold in 48 hours.

After the agreed time lapsed, Alowi called Phiri, who alleged that he had invested the money in his mining business and was yet to process the gold ore.

Alowi returned to the Netherlands before getting her money back, and suffered actual prejudice of US$25 000.
