GOLD panners are digging up parts of the road which links the two mining towns of Patchway Mine and Chakari in Mashonaland West.
The major road also links Chakari and Kadoma, the main urban settlement in the area.
The road has been in a bad shape for some time but the gold panners are even making it worse as they are digging up parts of the road in search of the precious mineral.
“They wait until it’s late night when the road is not busy and there is less movement of people and they dig parts of the road,” said a local resident who identified himself only as Mr Dhlamini.
Another local resident, who identified himself as Kelvin, told H-Metro that the whole area was very rich in gold.
“This whole region is rich in gold.
“It’s just that some youths are lazy and they do not want to work hard and that is why they are preferring to damage this vital infrastructure.”
Many gold panners have descended on the area from various parts of the country hoping to strike gold in the rich goldfields.
Some have struck gold while others are still chasing their dreams.
