LAST season’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Golden Boot winner, Lynoth ‘Sonji’ Chikhuwa, finally shook off the weight of expectation and silence with a thunderous strike that marked his first goal of the 2025 season.
The Scotland F.C. striker, who bagged 13 goals for Highlanders in the 2024 campaign to claim top scorer honours, had gone up to week 16, past the halfway mark of the season, without scoring since joining the ambitious
Harare side owned by businessman Pedzisai ‘Scott’ Sakupwanya.
But on Wednesday afternoon at GreenFuel Arena, The Golden Boy came alive. In the 54th minute, Chikhuwa latched onto a slick pass, turned with class, and rifled the ball into the net to give Scotland a temporary 2–1 lead. The match ended 2–2, but the real victory was Sonji’s personal breakthrough.
“It’s been coming. I just had to stay focused and wait for my moment,” Chikhuwa said after the match.
Fans had started to question whether his magic had dried up, but Sonji answered in style. The goal ended a frustrating run that had seen him go scoreless since his high-profile transfer.
GreenFuel fought back with a brace from the in-form Chris Ngwende, including a last-gasp penalty, to deny Scotland the win. But all the post-match buzz was about Chikhuwa finally hitting the net.
Club president Scott Sakupwanya was ecstatic.
“This is what champions do. They rise when the pressure is high. Sonji is a star, and now the goals will flow,” he said.
Social media lit up with fans relieved and excited. “He’s back,” wrote user Noma_Ballers. “Golden Boot last season, and now the drought is over. League defenders beware.”
From top scorer to silent striker, and now back among the goals—The Golden Boy has officially kicked off his season.
