GOLDEN Eagles continued with their fine run in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League when a lone strike from in-form Claude “Pokello” Mapoka managed to win all the three points against Trojan at Ellis Robbins on Saturday.

Mapoka is in fine form after he also found the back of the net against Black Mambas the previous weekend.

The newly-promoted side will go into the Christmas break among the leaders as they are still to drop points.

Golden Eagles coach Joel Lupahla said he is happy with the progress they are making and hailed his troops.

The other matches between Simba Bhora and Black Mambas as well as the Karoi united and PAM United were cancelled after some players tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, the ZIFA Northern Region Division One Soccer League will take a break for the Festive Season and the teams are expected to regroup on January 3.

In a statement, Hastings Makunde, the region’s secretary-general, said they are taking a break for the Festive Season and will resume their matches on January 15 and 16.

“This communique serves to confirm that the league will go into recess after match day four fixtures as they were scheduled for the weekend of 18-19 December 2021.

“For the smooth resumption of the league, following the Christmas break, please be guided as follows: PCR Covid-19 tests before training, re-scheduled fixtures — for postponed matches, mid-week fixtures — for postponed matches only, full league resumption will be on January 15 and 16.

“We will soon furnish you with a full report on the successes scored and challenges encountered in this new normal.

“In the meantime, a big thank you for your resilience and determination in keeping our league running. Let me take this opportunity to wish you all, a Merry Christmas and a prosperous 2022,” Makunde said.
