THE Zimbabwe Under-21 netball team — Young Gems — and South Africa’s Spar Baby Proteas will be curtain raisers of the three-day international test series that will see South Africa and England first teams lock horns in Bellville Velodrome, Cape Town from 29 November to 1 December.
At the series, England will probably be hoping to make up for the humiliating defeat they recently suffered at the Rugby World Cup in Japan where Mzansi’s Springboks thrashed them 32 -12 in the final match.
Young Gems coach Ropafadzo Mutsauki said they were looking forward to the opportunity that would enable them to prepare the squad for the forthcoming Under-21 World Cup Qualifiers set for next year.
“The girls will play three games as curtain raisers of the test series. I think this will greatly help us to prepare our squad for the upcoming games especially the World Cup Qualifiers,” said Mutsauki.
The Young Gems were the first Zimbabwean team to qualify for a World Cup as they were part of teams that took part in a junior netball extravaganza which was held in Botswana in July 2017.
“In Botswana the Young Gems came out on number nine and we will be hoping to improve in these coming qualifiers,” said Mutsauki.
