Golden Peacock Villa Hotel has joined Government and other stakeholders in the fight against drug abuse after they partnered a local fitness organisation, BG.

BG will today hold an anti-drug awareness indoor boot camp for the guests at the hotel as well as invited guests.

Admission fee is US$5.

Training will be conducted and overseen by Master BG.

The programme will run from 5am to 7pm under the theme ‘Your health is your wellness’.

BG Fitness chairperson, Dr Ushe Madumi confirmed: “We are looking forward to a fruitful partnership with Golden Peacock in the fight against drug abuse through health and wellness. Master BG will take the guests through aerobics and fitness training for close to three hours,” he said.

Golden Peacock general manager, Mr Adonis Mutigwe said the partnership is part of the hotel’s social corporate responsibility initiatives.

“This drug abuse scourge has destroyed people, not just youths, but families. As a hotel, we have decided to take this seriously and raise awareness through health and wellness. It is part of our corporate responsibility initiatives and we believe it will go a long way in communicating the adverse effects of drugs.

“We are partnering with BG and we are encouraging our guests to be part of this initiative and take care of their health. We hold this event occasionally. On top of hospitality, we are also focusing on our guests’ health,” said Mr Mutigwe.

Government has been spearheading various initiatives to eliminate the illegal use of drugs, with churches and several development partners also stepping in to scale up the fight.

Drug and substance abuse’s serious health and social impact is being widely felt across the country.

Although drug addicts are abusing dangerous drugs such as dagga, BronCleer, illicit beers and ganja cakes, it has been established that crystal meth is the most abused.
