THE Zimbabwe Golf Association have named a four-man amateurs’ golf team for this year’s All Africa Golf Championships in Swaziland from September 19-23. The team was selected according to the order of merit after the Bata Open, which was won by the in-form Clive Nguru. Nguru shot scores of 72, 67, 71 and 73 to win the event which attracted 80 participants.
In doing so he consolidated his status as the country’s top amateur golfer and spiced his fine performance with a course record 67 in the second round.
Monte Claire’s Robson Chinhoyi announced his arrival in the amateur ranks by finishing second with scores of 73, 68, 74 and 74.
Visitor Mapwanya of Renco Mine was third after shooting 75, 78, 73 and 73.
Thembelani Vundhla and David Amm settled for fourth and fifth places.
Nguru is happy with his game right now.
“I was under pressure to win a tournament after settling for second place for several months now.
