THE Zimbabwe Ladies Golf Union have named Natasha Zelow captain for the upcoming Gilbeson and Page trophy at Borrowdale Brooke and Chapman. The triangular series tournament will see Zimbabwe play against Zambia and Kenya from August 3 to 6. The team has players whose handicaps range from 1-10 and will square off with Zambia and Kenya.
Zelow of Royal Harare plays off 10-handcap and has been doing well.
The team are practicing on Mondays and Wednesdays and 12-year-old Danille Bekker has made it into the side.
Seasoned golfer Yollanda Mubaiwa, who spent last season on the sidelines as she was nursing her baby, is now back in the mix.
Leading player Batsirai Tilowakuti is also in the team that is expected to end Kenya’s dominance.
Other players are Brenda Leipe, Aulia Alfazema, rookies Emily Jones and Sarah Blythe-wood.
The Kenya women’s team will be the defending champions, having triumphed at the 2011 and 2013 G&P at the Chainama Hills Golf Club in Lusaka in 2011.
They went on to win the trophy at Karen Country Club and Muthaiga Golf Clubs in 2013.
The G&P was not held in 2009.
The tournament was first played in 1969 as a match between East Africa and Zambia.
