The State of Palestine has condemned an unprecedented wave of Israeli settler attacks and military raids across the occupied West Bank, with more than 178 incidents reportedly recorded within 48 hours.
In a statement, Palestinian envoy to Zimbabwe, Ambassador Tamer Almassri, said the escalation, which occurred on Saturday evening and into the early hours of Sunday, involved Israeli military incursions, house raids, arrests, live fire and the use of tear gas in several Palestinian villages.
Ambassador Almassri said Israeli settlers have also attacked Palestinian homes and mosques, torched vehicles, assaulted civilians, blocked ambulances and closed major roads, allegedly under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.
He described the incidents as part of what he called a systematic policy of state-backed settler violence aimed at displacing Palestinians and advancing plans for annexation and what he termed ethnic cleansing.
“These crimes are not isolated incidents, but are part of an official and systematic Israeli policy based on providing political and military support, as well as protection, to Israeli settler terrorists,” he said.
Ambassador Almassri said the continued lack of accountability was encouraging further attacks, calling on governments to take urgent and practical measures to address the situation.
He urged countries to issue clear statements condemning the violence, support independent international investigations, hold those responsible accountable and impose sanctions on the Israeli colonial system and its officials.
“The Palestinian people can no longer tolerate the continuation of a policy of impunity,” Ambassador Almassri said.
He also called on the international community to translate its legal and moral commitments into practical measures to protect Palestinian civilians.
Ambassador Almassri called for an end to the occupation and urged Israel to respect international law and international legitimacy resolutions.
