Golfers hope to come up tops

where they face a tough challenge from South Africa and the hosts.
The team, made up of veterans and new players, is expected to leave for Mombasa, Kenya on Sunday.
Local amateurs are expected to battle it out with several African countries that will take part in the prestigious tournament.
Zimbabweans will be a major drawcard at the tournament given their knack of as causing major upsets in previous events.
But their biggest threat will come from the defending champions and hosts Kenya and South Africa, who have a strong junior policy.
Botswana who hosted last year’s event are also expected to play well.
Golf has improved in Zimbabwe with top amateur Scott Vincent who has been playing in the South Africa tournaments expected to lead the country if he picks his form.
The supporting act of Nyasha Muyambo, Dumi Chitengwa, Clive Nguru, Ray Badenhoirst, Narbil Umerji, Greg Bentley and skipper Dale Howie all have capacity to match any challenge.
Meanwhile, the local junior golf tournaments will start next week following the closure of schools yesterday.
Several junior tournaments are lined up this holiday with the first major tournament the Matabeleland Junior Championships set for Bulawayo.
The tournaments will tee off on Monday at the Bulawayo Golf Club where several junior golfers are expected to converge.
A host of enthusiastic new players are expected to come on board unlike last year when it was very much a Vincent and Nguru affair.
The junior championships are mainly for golfers under the age of 18.
It should be a platform for such upcoming golfers like Bret Krog, Ben-Follet Smith, Eugine Nguru, Gerald Shwabane and several others to showcase their talents.
Mashonaland junior golf coach Mike Baylis expects good holiday golf tournaments from the juniors.
“There are a lot of tournaments lined up this holiday and we expect to see new players in the sport.
“Our aim is to see the sport grow and we thrive to promote our juniors as much as we can,” Baylis said.
