‘Good health care is our priority’

behalf by the Minister of State in his office Cde Flora Bhuka during the commissioning of a refurbished Intensive Care Unit at Mater Dei Hospital, VP Nkomo said all hospitals in the country needed crucial intervention and as such it called for the corporate world to chip in and assist.

The Mater Dei ICU was refurbished by SAI Enterprises, which trades as Bellevue Spar.
“The provision of health care services is one of the most critical areas of need in Zimbabwe. Our hospitals are not only suffering from the shortage of critical state-of- the- art medical equipment, but have also been affected by the perennial brain drain,” said VP Nkomo.

“It is crucial for our health institutions to be assisted by the corporate world for the sake of improved health in the country.”

VP Nkomo commended SAI Enterprises for refurbishing the Mater Dei ICU, saying the company had demonstrated its generosity to the Bulawayo community.

“The delivery of world class health care services to Zimbabweans remains one of the Government’s top most priorities. This cannot be achieved if we leave it to the Government alone, as it has numerous other social development programmes to cater for. It is encouraging when a company like SAI Enterprises demonstrates its generosity by joining hands with the Government to refurbish an ICU in one of the few functional hospitals in the country. This is definitely a crucial intervention, which should be emulated by other organisations in their future corporate social responsibility programmes,” said VP Nkomo.

He thanked the managing director of SAI Enterprises, Mr Raj Modi for giving back to the community.
“This event adds on to the long list of the good deeds Mr Modi has performed so far. In June we were gathered at Mpilo Central Hospital here in Bulawayo, where SAI Enterprises donated an ambulance and other medical supplies under their corporate social responsibility programme.

“The company is demonstrating its sense of awareness of the need for the corporate world to join hands with the Government in our endeavour to provide critical services like health care to our community,” said VP Nkomo.

The Mater Dei Hospital administrator, Sr Maureen Jamieson said the refurbishment of the institution’s ICU was a great achievement for the Bulawayo community.

“We are grateful for what SAI Enterprises has done for Mater Dei. It is such an upliftment for the hospital and the Bulawayo community. It definitely makes the environment conducive for both patients and members of staff,” she said.
