GABORONE United defender Tatenda Gora has solidified his status as a frontrunner for the FNB Premiership Defender of the Season award after delivering another commanding performance in his side’s 3-0 away victory over Matebele on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old center-back not only anchored a resolute defensive line, but also contributed offensively, netting his fifth goal of the campaign, a remarkable feat for a defender.
His all-around excellence earned him the Man-of-the-Match accolade, further boosting his credentials for the prestigious individual honor.
With the win, Gaborone United extended their lead at the top of the FNB Premiership, opening a two-point gap over second-placed Jwaneng Galaxy.
The victory also marked another clean sheet for Gora and his defensive unit, underscoring their crucial role in the team’s title charge.

Gora, a linchpin in Gaborone United’s backline, has been instrumental in their defence line, combining physicality, tactical intelligence, and leadership to keep his side in contention for the championship.
His consistency has placed him among six elite defenders shortlisted for the Defender of the Season award, alongside Thabo Leinanyane (Jwaneng Galaxy), Thami Zulu (Mochudi Centre Chiefs), Kemoneetswe Mnangwedi (Tafic), Thato Seagateng (Sua Flamingoes), and Shanganai Nganda (Tafic).
Speaking after the match, Gora attributed his success to teamwork and determination.
“We fought as a unit, and we understand the importance of every win at this stage of the season,” he said.
“The league is competitive, but we are ready to fight until the end. We also urge our supporters to keep rallying behind us, their energy fuels our performances.”
With two matches left, Gora’s form could prove pivotal in Gaborone United’s quest for silverware.
Their next match is against second placed Jwaneng Galaxy, and a win could all they need to be crowned champions.
