Gore urges immediate preparations for 2025 Afcon

ZIFA presidential election aspirant Marshal Gore, who was defeated by Nqobile Magwizi for the top post, has emphasised the importance of starting preparations immediately for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon), which will be crucial for the Warriors’ success.

Gore stressed that a well-organised preparation plan will be key to achieving better results in the upcoming tournament.
The Afcon tournament will run from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026.

The Warriors, now under German coach Michael Nees, are set to return to the prestigious tournament after missing the previous edition held in Côte d’Ivoire due to a Fifa suspension.

In the draw held in Rabat, Morocco, the Warriors were placed in a group which has South Africa, Angola, and Egypt.
Gore believes it’s a tough group but he remains optimistic.

“The group is tough, but with good preparations, we can achieve the desired results. It’s crucial to begin our preparations immediately. This includes organising competitive friendly matches and leveraging the World Cup qualifiers to refine and develop our playing style,” said Gore.

He also wished the new president all the best in his new role.

This marks a significant moment for Zimbabwean football, and I am committed to supporting the new administration in their efforts to advance the game. Together, we can work to realise the immense potential of our football for the benefit of all.”

I look forward to collaborating with Mr Magwizi and his team as I firmly believe that unity and shared purpose are crucial in addressing the challenges facing our football,” said Gore.
