Goromonzi Arts Ensemble, representing Mashonaland East province at this year’s Chibuku Neshamwari national finals, is determined to use the opportunity as a stepping stone to finally gain national recognition.

The group, which has qualified for the finals three times in the past, has yet to secure a top-three spot. However, their passion and commitment to promoting their community through cultural dance remain unwavering.

Group leader Michael Mupandawana said the ensemble was born in 2016 out of a vision to showcase the artistic potential of Goromonzi and to instill cultural pride in younger generations.
“In 2016, I decided to form this group to put Goromonzi on the cultural map. Art is our tool to build something meaningful for our community,” he said.

“As a 15-member group, our mission is to preserve our traditions and teach future generations to remain rooted in their culture. Our signature is the Jerusalem Mbende dance, which has become our defining act.”
Now preparing for their fourth appearance at the national finals, Mupandawana said the group is going all out this time around.
“We’re honoured to represent Mashonaland East once again, and we’re putting our all into this performance. We want to make our province proud and finally earn the recognition we’ve been striving for.”

With renewed energy and deep cultural conviction, Goromonzi Arts Ensemble is ready to make its mark on the national stage. – Follow on X: @mthabisi_mthire
