Goromonzi in rugby committee

FORMER Premier Soccer League treasurer Joseph Goromonzi and Harare businessman Winston Makamure have been named in the Zimbabwe Rugby Union’s Sables committee.
The committee is expected to run the affairs of the senior national rugby side.
Makamure used to handle the affairs of former Warriors captain Peter Ndlovu as his manager and was also responsible for brokering his deals in England in the 1990s.
The businessman also has interests in rugby as his son, Brian, is also part of the Sables after he earned his first cap last year in the Victoria Cup against Uganda.
The committee also has the Sables manager Noddy Kanyangarara as the interim chairman while Reuben Marowa, Goromonzi, Makamure and Harare Sports Club manager Freddy Penias are responsible for fund-raising and sponsorship.
Former Sables coach Godwin Murambiwa is also part of the committee and will be responsible for the technical department.
Murambiwa’s duties include planning for the team’s training, players selection and games reviews.
Former women’s coach Abigail Govere has been appointed as the treasurer, with ZRU administrator Yeukai Gandawa co-ming in as the secretary.
A ZRU executive member, who monitors and reports progress to the Union, will fill in the last slot as he attends meetings on both the Sables committee and the ZRU board.
Following the Zimbabwe Under-20 fundraising committee’s success in securing sponsors for their team over the past five years, the ZRU took a leaf from the Aaron Jani-led board.
The Union is expected to set up commercial units for each of their “brands” with each of the national teams – Sables, Pangolins, Cheetahs Under-20 and the Schools’ Under-18 and Under-14 Craven Week sides – being brands on their own.
