Speaking at a ceremony held in Goromonzi’s Ward 20 on Monday, the businesswoman, Ms Sharon Mugabe, said the money was meant to change the lives of the youths in the area. “The money is aimed at upgrading and improving the lives of all the youths in Goromonzi South so that they will not wait for someone to employ them in order to earn a living, but be the employers themselves,” she said.
Ms Mugabe said those who wanted to engage in raising chickens would receive training in poultry which she would facilitate.
They would also receive stock feeds.Ms Mugabe said she wanted to set an example of how youths could succeed in business if given a chance.
“This is a new development in this area and because of that we want to set a big record of success through operating profitable projects,” she said.
“We want to set a big record across the country that Goromonzi youths once given a chance to prosper can fully capitalise on the opportunity.”
One of the beneficiaries, Lickwell Shereni, said the empowerment drive would reduce crime in the area. since most of the youths would be concentrating on their projects.
