GOSPEL musician Rumbi Zvirikuzhe on Friday partnered with police in calling for action to fight Gender Based Violence.

Rumbi told Ruwa residents GBV had no place in society and everyone must play a part in ending this menace.

One of her songs, “Huya Mweya Mutsvene,” was a hit with the crowd.

Officer Commanding Police Harare East District, Chief Superintendent Ananciata Kavhayi, said cases of domestic violence and robberies involving mushikashikas were on the increase.

“As the Zimbabwe Republic Police, we are urging families to enjoy their festive season peacefully and stop domestic violence,” said Chief Supt Kavhayi.

“We have engaged gospel artist Rumbi Zvirikuzhe to help us in spreading good news through her music and we have engaged various church leaders.

“Cases of domestic violence and robberies involving mushikashika have been increasing and this is our concern.

“Abuse of drugs and substances is also our big concern as we are losing many of our youths and we are appealing for a collective responsibility in addressing this,” she said.

One of the cases highlighted involved a 32-year-old woman from Mabvuku stabbed by her husband Charles Ruzaro, 52, because he claimed she used more potatoes than what was needed for the lunch of two people.

Harare provincial police spokesperson, Inspector Luckmore Chakanza, said the woman was battling for life at Parirenyatwa Hospital and Charles was arrested.
