ASPIRING Rusape-based gospel musician, Musa Maruva is working on his second six-track album, Greatness Starts With You. The album carries tracks such as Handisi Murombo which he talks about someone who is going through a tough time, but the person continuously believes that one day God will deliver him from poverty. The other song on the album is Its Only God, whereby someone appreciates who God is and the other track is Your Name Is Written on my heart.
“I am looking forward to release my second album in November and currently I am working with my elder brother, Ishmael Kakupo,” said Maruva.
Maruva once did an album, To the Greatness We Go last year which according to him was well received.
“My first project was well received and I recorded it at Loudwave studios in Marondera. This time I am aiming higher. If funds permit, I will record at a well known studio,” said the 25-year-old artiste.
Maruva started his music career at a tender age of six.
“I just loved listening and singing music especially at church. I was greatly inspired by Progress Chipfumo,”said the dreadlocked singer.
Maruva won Music Crossroads, a musical competition in 2010 and he had a privilege to travel to Holland, Spain and France.
“It was a life time priviledge. People in Europe enjoyed our music and I am looking forward to go there again, but this time on my own,” he added.
Maruva was born on March 11, 1990 in Sanyati, Gokwe. He left Gokwe when he was only two.
He went to stay in Murehwa with his mom and grandparents before going to Marondera in 2001.
He attended Hupenyu Hutsva Primary and Marirangwe Primary schools before enrolling at Cherutombo High School for his Ordinary Level.
For his Advanced Level, he attended Marondera High School, but could not finish due to financial challenges.
He relocated to Rusape in 2011 where he is running some small business.
“I could not finish my A-Levels because of lack of money and I decided to venture into music. Right now I am working very hard and hope to compose more songs that will reach out to the world,” he said.
Like any other upcoming artsites, Maruva laments lack of sponsorship.
“Sponsorship is one of the hindrances that I am facing right now. If sponsorship is availed, I will go far,” he said.
