Trust Khosa-Zimpapers Arts and Entertainment Hub
Zimbabwe is rapidly emerging as a haven for gospel musicians, consistently attracting international stars to its vibrant music scene.
This exciting wave has enhanced the genre’s appeal, which was once overlooked. By adding a professional touch, gospel music has become the highlight of the industry, with top regional and international artists collaborating with local talent.
This weekend, fans will brave the drizzly weather, as the refreshing showers of praise and worship are sure to uplift all attendees.
With International Women’s Day celebrations in mind, many divas will also be praying for women to find strength and faith in God in both trying and joyful times.
• Eleana Makombe’s Grateful Moments
The popular diva has arrived in Harare ahead of her much‑hyped interface with fellow women in Christ, as well as children, at a family show set for Zimbali in Greendale, Harare, tomorrow.
As one of the major gospel shows in town, Makombe will share one stage with top local praise and worship stars. The event will also serve as the launchpad for her much‑awaited album, She Is Grateful, which was inspired by her journey in music.
She will be joined by Minister Michael Mahendere, Sharon Cherayi, Siphiwe Ndebele and South African gospel exponent Lebo Sekgobela.
• Janet Manyowa’s American Affair
As one of the biggest weekends for the gospel‑loving community, the award‑winning star performer has been given yet another opportunity to shine this evening at the Harare International Conference Centre.
Dubbed the Everywhere Tour, Manyowa will share the stage with American gospel stars Naomi Raine and Todd Galberth.
The event will also feature Ellard and Sharon Cherayi, Cleo Arie and the recent NAMA winners, The Unveiled Choir. Top South African actress and media personality Rorisang Thandekiso will host the event. Attendees can look forward to a mixed bag of local and international flavours, ushering them into a bright weekend filled with song and dance.
• Evangelist Timothy’s Double Delight
Consistent praise and worship singer Evangelist Timothy is a man on a mission, determined to celebrate Women’s Month through song and dance this Saturday.
The talented choreographer, well‑known in gospel circles, will also mark 10 years in the industry alongside his 38th birthday at New Fantasyland Upstairs Cinema 4 in Harare.
This makes it a triple celebration for the man of the cloth, famed for his energy‑sapping performances.
He will share the stage with two secular musicians — Takasure Chari of Chari Express and Donator Calvins of Door Ratovharwa fame — who have been included in the line‑up for variety’s sake.
Long‑serving gospel diva Bethen Pasinawako, Obert Chari and MC Gringo (real name Taurai Boora) complete the line‑up.
With gospel music being the in‑thing, fans will be spoiled for choice, as this gig promises a wide variety of performances.
• Macheso Worshipping with Villagers
Alick Macheso may not belong to a specific church, but he insists he is a prayer warrior in his own right. He firmly believes that his songs are imbued with profound divine teachings that are shaping Zimbabwe by preaching the eternal gospel of Ubuntu, faith and genuine love.
Tonight, Macheso will perform in the Murereka area of Lions Den.
Following the Mashonaland West event, Orchestra Mberikwazvo will make another stopover at Club 007 in Glendale for yet another pungwe.
On Sunday, he will grace the unveiling of Mutoko FC at Chikondoma Stadium in Mutoko, Mashonaland East, courtesy of Jiddim Entertainment.
Zimdancehall stars Hwindi Prezident and Libbo will perform at the event, warming up the stage for Macheso, who commands a large following in the area.
Macheso, who was raised by his uncles, will also take the opportunity to officially launch the Women’s Month commemorations for the Mutoko chapter with song and dance.
