YESTERYEAR gospel artist Samuel Munyai – better known as Brother Sam – has been ordained as a church bishop.

The 62-year-old took a break from music to enrol at a Bible College.

The Mukadzi Akanaka hit-maker told H-Metro pastoral duties were his main calling.

“I stopped recording songs to find time at the Bible College,” said Bro Sam.

“Pastoral duties is my main calling although I became popular through music. I stopped recording songs due to piracy and the challenges I faced with recording companies.

“After completing my Bachelor of Arts in Theology, I was engaged in planting churches within the region. I was ordained a bishop in Zambia last year following my successful mission in humanitarian work in various countries within Southern Africa.”

Brother Sam, with five albums to his name, has plans to return to the studio for more songs this year.

He started his musical career under Baba Machanic Manyeruke, as a keyboard player, and left in 1992 to record his own music.

Brother Sam was one of the facilitators at a three-day Leadership Seminar held in Chitungwiza over the weekend.
