Rising gospel musician Tenson “Mukanya” Sinaiti will tonight host a show to honour his late wife who succumbed to cancer last month.
The musician said the show, set for Sunnyside Central Farm in Norton, would also be a cancer awareness event as there will be sessions to share information about the disease during the memorial.
His wife Muneini, died on September 18 and tonight’s show will be Mukanya’s first performance after her death.
Mukanya and his Grace of God outfit will alternate on stage with fellow musician Costa Songo while various other upcoming groups are also expected to take part during the all-night event.
“She was a rock and a pillar of strength. She was hard-working, a caring mother and she was the one who drove me into farming and business. What better way therefore of remembering her than through song and dance,” he said.
Mukanya’s fellow musician and close friend Songo – said there was nothing odd in them performing at the memorial service.
“A memorial service is not a funeral, but an occasion meant to remember and comfort and wipe away the tears brought about by the departure of a beloved one. One better way of doing it is through music,” he said.
Mukanya released his new album titled “Amai Ndirikure” just before his wife’s death and tracks on the release are “Mweya Yakaipa”, “Gushungo”, “Kudzungaira”, “Dhimoni”, “Muchamutsvaga Mwari” featuring Songo Man, “Vatungamirei” and “Ndirikure”.
Some of the songs are doing well on radio.
