Government allocates US$1 million to fund Warriors 2025 AFCON campaign

HARARE, Zimbabwe — This afternoon, President Emmerson Mnangagwa served as the Guest of Honour at a congratulatory ceremony for the Zimbabwe National Football Team, the Warriors, following their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) finals in Morocco.

The ceremony took place at State House, where the team was celebrated for their impressive performance in Group J, securing second place with nine points.

The government has allocated US$1 million to support the Warriors’ preparations and participation in the upcoming tournament, reflecting a commitment to promoting sports as part of Zimbabwe’s broader Vision 2030 objectives.

Acting Minister of Sports, Arts and Recreation, Kazembe Kazembe, presented the national team to President Mnangagwa, emphasising the significance of their achievement in uniting the nation and fostering national pride.

The AFCON finals are scheduled for December 2025 in Morocco, marking an important milestone for Zimbabwean football as the Warriors aim to showcase their talent on an international stage.
