The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) has begun construction of a new substantive police station in Kuwadzana, with a groundbreaking ceremony currently underway in Harare.
The new police station is being built on an open space behind the KFC outlet, close to a place popularly known as “Pamagetsi”, along Bulawayo Road.
The groundbreaking ceremony is being officiated by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Cde Chido Sanyatwe, who is representing the Minister of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, Cde Kazembe Kazembe.
Also attending the event are Commissioner-General of Police Stephen Mutamba, senior police officers, Government officials and other invited guests.
The new facility is expected to significantly improve policing and service delivery in Kuwadzana, replacing the current police station, which operates from a converted residential house.
The project forms part of the Government’s ongoing programme to modernise police infrastructure and decentralise security services by constructing purpose-built police stations in communities across the country.
The development follows the recent commissioning of new police stations as the Second Republic continues to expand access to policing services and strengthen law enforcement infrastructure nationwide.
Recently, Commissioner-General Mutamba, commissioned a new station at Siakobvu Growth Point in Kariba Rural District.
The new facility is equipped with administrative offices to enhance record management and case processing, solar-powered energy systems to guarantee uninterrupted operations and adequate space to accommodate officers for round-the-clock policing.
It also includes victim-friendly facilities designed to improve the handling of criminal and civil matters, particularly cases involving gender-based violence and vulnerable groups.
