THE development of the education sector can only be complete if private players and individuals complement Government efforts, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Dr Torerai Moyo has said.
Minister Moyo made the remarks last Friday during the commissioning of boarding facilities, a 75-seater bus, two open-truck vehicles, and boreholes at Neuso High School in Sanyati Constituency, which were made available by the DCK Group of Companies, demonstrating collaborative efforts between the Government, the private sector, and local communities.
The transformation makes Neuso the second boarding facility in the area. The boarding facilities and vehicles are expected to improve learning at the school. Learners, parents and traditional leaders commended the development.
“The new boarding facility means our children will no longer walk long distances, sometimes up to 10 or 12 kilometres,” said Mrs Shuvai Majoni, a Sanyati villager.
“We hope that their fee structures will be within the reach of many parents. As a parent in Sanyati, this dovetails with President Mnangagwa’s call of ‘leaving no place and person behind’.”
“We have always wanted our children to have the same opportunities as those in the cities.” Mr Issac Mutizwa, a parent who is going to enrol his child at the school, said, “A stable place to stay will provide learners a safe environment and access to resources like computers and internet they never had.”
Museyamwa Village Head from the neighbouring Gokwe North in Midlands province said traditional leaders welcome development that seeks to transform their communities.
“A school is the centre of progress, and when it grows, the whole area grows with it,” he said. “We expect improved pass rates, increased enrolment, and better discipline because learners will be in a supervised environment.
“This is the kind of development we have been waiting for, this school is becoming a pillar of our district.”
DCK Group of Companies CEO, Mr Patrick Chikosha, said his company is rallying behind President Mnangagwa’s developmental agenda, adding that the construction of the dormitories gave employment opportunities to locals.
“Nyika inovakwa nevene vayo”. As DCK, we are proud to deliver a modern facility right here in rural Sanyati.
“We used local labour, local materials where possible, and ensured that the project benefited the community even during construction.
“This school is proof that development does not only happen in cities, but it also starts where the people are. We built with the future of these children in mind.”
Dr Moyo, who commended the Public-Private-Partnership that exists between the Government, community and DCK Group of Companies, said upgrading of rural learning institutions remains a key Government priority.
“We commend DCK and the entire Sanyati community for partnering with the government on this project. Upgrading rural schools like Neuso High is fully aligned with our national strategic direction,” he said.
“Under President Mnangagwa’s leadership, we are focused on ensuring that development is felt in every part of the country, not just in urban centres.”
The transformation of Neuso also aligns with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), expected to run from next year until 2030
The strategy emphasises human capital development, modern infrastructure, and equitable access to quality services, including education.
The commissioning was also attended by the senior Zanu PF provincial leadership, including chairman, Cde Mary Mliswa-Chikoka and Government officials.
