Government has distributed more than 3000 aqua tablets and more than 1000 water guard sachets in Mberengwa, Midlands province, following the outbreak of Cholera in Chomubobo resettlement area last year.
The outbreak claimed three lives while 26 people were affected. In an interview, Acting Provincial Epidemiology and disease control officer Dr Tshebukani Moyo said the Ministry was working hard to prevent any further outbreaks of the deadly disease in the area.
“We have distributed 3 371 Aqua tablets, 1008 Water guard sachets, 408 twenty litre buckets with taps as well as 200 plastic jerry cans in an intense fight against Cholera in Mberengwa and the province at large,” he said.
Dr Moyo said distributed goods were a donation from various organisations that partnered with the government. He said the ministry recruited over 5000 health educators to teach villagers about prevention measures.
He said as part of the fight against the epidemic, two boreholes have been drilled in Chomubobo area.
“Two boreholes were drilled by Zinwa while the third one was a dry hole which will be redone. We have made sure that households have dug pits in preparation of latrine building. The only challenge faced by villagers is that of purchasing cement,” he said.
