Government hails public-private partnerships

Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister Marian Chombo has hailed the private sector for complementing Government efforts in uplifting communities in line with the mantra “leaving no one and no place behind”.

This comes after the Postal and Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (Potraz) donated a 5kva solar system at Raffingora Clinic.

Potraz also donated solar-powered refrigerators and medicines as part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives.

Handing over the donations, Minister Chombo said Raffingora Clinic, which supports a population of 16 000 people, would benefit immensely as it had no reliable power supply.

“This gesture shows that indeed Zimbabwe will be built by its own people, including the private sector. No one and no place should be left behind in terms of development. This donation will ensure that there is requisite health service at all times,” said Minister Chombo.

Zvimba District Medical Officer Dr Terrence Dandadzi said there is need for more solar systems to ensure that rural clinics can store their own medicine.

“This is a welcome development as it ensures that all the medication that needs refrigeration is readily available at the institution,” he said.

“We need more of this to ensure smooth provision of health services, even at night.”

Meanwhile, 130 elderly and people with disabilities from Zvimba North Constituency also received food hampers from Potraz.

Mrs Sarah Sikota thanked Potraz for the food hampers saying it has set the stage for a memorable festive season.
