GOVERNMENT, through the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, has launched “Your Tax Works, See the change in your community” campaign, which seeks to highlight the developmental work being carried out across the country that is being financed from taxes collected by the Government.

The programme also seeks to educate people on the importance of paying tax. The programme was launched in Marondera, Mashonaland East province, this week.

In an interview with Zimpapers on the sidelines of the launch, Ms Pretty Moyo, director of communications and advocacy in the Ministry of Finance, said the programme will run for six months and will be carried out in all the provinces of Zimbabwe.

“It is a six-month-long campaign where the Ministry of Finance, together with Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA), are moving around Zimbabwe’s 10 provinces and will be visiting three districts per province where we are urging people to pay tax,” she said.

“We want people to understand that it is the money from taxes that is driving socio-economic development.

“We want people to see where they are coming from when it comes to national development. People should understand where we come in as the nation puts efforts to achieve Vision 2030.

“So we are moving around with this programme, meeting various community members who include business people and community leaders. We are just conscientising them on the importance of paying tax.”

Ms Moyo said the engagements were outstanding as many people participated in discussions, which shows their interest in knowing about tax.

“The engagement was good. It is important that people are made aware of the importance of paying tax.”
