A 38-year-old Victoria Falls man has been arraigned before the courts on murder charges following a brutal altercation that began with a water dispute and ended with a teenager’s body being dumped in a sewer pond.
Tinashe Wireless Nyarukokora, who also goes by the alias “Spraga,” appeared before the Victoria Falls Magistrates’ Court this week. He is accused of murdering a 17-year-old boy in the early hours of August 13.
According to a statement issued by the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), the conflict started on August 12 at the Victoria Falls wastewater treatment ponds, where the two had a confrontation over water.
The following day, at around 4 am, the victim, who was returning home from drinking beer in the Chinotimba suburb, met Nyarukokora again at the same site.
It is alleged that Nyarukokora assaulted him viciously with a wooden log and an electric cable before finally strangling him to death.
In a bid to conceal the crime, the accused allegedly dragged the body for approximately 15 meters and dumped it into one of the sewer ponds before fleeing the scene.
The victim’s body was discovered floating in the pond on August 16 by a worker conducting a routine check of the treatment ponds.
Police investigations quickly led them to Nyarukokora. A key breakthrough came from a witness who reported hearing the deceased’s desperate cries during the attack.
The witness stated they clearly heard the teenager scream, “Spraga, Spraga, why are you strangling me?” – directly implicating the accused by his alias.
The case has been remanded to September 3, 2025, for further proceedings.
