The Office of the President and Cabinet has started a series of thematic consultative workshops for the formulation of strategies towards the realisation of priority areas under the forthcoming National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2).
At least 10 thematic working groups representing 10 priority areas of the Government have been set up.
The workshops started with the thematic working groups on Social Development and Social Protection, Job Creation, Youth Development, Creativity Industry and Culture.
They will run until August 15.
Chairperson of the Social Cluster and Deputy Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Mr Willard Manungo said the consultations were aimed at developing the NDS2 blueprint, which is expected to be launched at the end of this year.
He said the process was a bridge between NDS1 into NDS2 and lessons learnt would be incorporated into the new blueprint.
The strategy lays the pathway towards the attainment of Vision 2030 for an empowered Upper-Middle Income society.
Co-chairperson and Permanent Secretary for Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Mr Simon Masanga highlighted some of the achievements of NDS1.
“The President declared that no one should die of hunger in this country. We had a devastating drought in 2023-2024. We were feeding in excess of 6 million people,” he said.
“And true to his word, no one died of hunger and we have managed to contain the school dropout rates, the BEAM programme is up and running, ensuring every child is in school.”
