President Mnangagwa has said Government is implementing policies and programmes aimed at empowering young people to actively participate in Zimbabwe’s economic transformation agenda.

Addressing the Zanu PF National Youth Assembly in Harare this afternoon, President Mnangagwa said the Second Republic is deliberately creating economic opportunities for young people through vocational training centres, business platforms and international partnerships.

The President said the country’s development thrust under Vision 2030 require young people with practical skills, discipline and innovation.

“The key aim is to ensure that you, the young people, are accelerators of industrialisation, modernisation, sustainable development and prosperity in our country.”

He said training institutions are playing a major role in empowering the youths.

“The establishment of the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Vocational Training Centre as a legacy project in Maphisa, Matabeleland South Province, stands as another lasting symbol of our party’s commitment to avail skills that drive youth development and a higher quality of life,” he said.

President Mnangagwa challenged young people to become productive contributors to the economy instead of remaining passive participants in national affairs.

“As First Secretary, I will not allow the Youth League to be a club of mere ‘talkers’.

“All your members have a duty to be productive and implementers of the party’s economic and social policies.

“Lasting development and prosperity is a result of hard, honest work, brick upon brick, step by step,” he said.

The President also urged youths to take advantage of business opportunities arising from bilateral and multilateral agreements signed by Government.

“Events such as the Youth Business Forum held on the sidelines of this year’s Zimbabwe International Trade Fair are ensuring that young entrepreneurs are integrated and aligned to productive and priority areas of our economy.

“More partnerships should be pursued with organisations such as ZimTrade to help the youth enter export markets,” he said.
