Cabinet yesterday approved the further decongestion of both public and private sector workplaces to 25 percent.
In her post-Cabinet briefing last night, the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Monica Mutsvangwa said that due to the continued rise in Covid-19 cases, Government was taking the lead by decongesting its workplaces.
“Government has further reduced its workforce to 25 percent, on a two-weeks rotational interval. Priority will be given to the vaccinated personnel,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
The Secretary in the Public Service Commission Ambassador Jonathan Wutawunashe has since notified department heads that, in light of the decongestion exercise, line Ministries should rotate staff in such a manner that no employee shall remain at home for more than 21 days at a stretch.
“Heads of Ministries to continue ensuring that staff members working from home are capacitated with ICT equipment and adequate Internet facilities for them to work efficiently and productively.
“Those coming to workplaces must also be well supported with efficient and sufficient bandwidth to facilitate the holding of virtual meetings and other e-enabled communication,” said Ambassador Wutawunashe.
The move by Government to decongest workplaces will ensure the maintenance of social-distance and in line with recommended guidelines by the World Health Organisation (WHO).
Zimbabwe which is currently experiencing a third wave of infections has so far recorded a total of 88 415 Covid-19 cases and 2 747 deaths.
Covid-19 cases have also been on the increase over the past month and it is expected that the decongestion of workplaces will go a long way in reducing the further spread of the deadly virus.
