Government has sent humanitarian aid consignments and grain to Malawi and Mozambique following devastating floods that have caused destruction and loss of life.

Officiating the send-off of the relief aid this morning, Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, bemoaned the impact of climate change in the region that she said is now a “threat multiplier”.

“Today we stand with our regional peers. We are expressing our solidarity with the people of Malawi and Mozambique,” Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri said.

She thanked President Mnangagwa for his impactful leadership following yesterday’s directive to despatch two helicopters to help search and rescue efforts in Mozambique.

The relief aid includes 1300 tonnes of maize, tents and blankets, among other materials. Malawi is set to receive 1000 tonnes of maize, while Mozambique receives 300 tonnes.
