The new Zanu-PF Government will do everything within its means to assist farmers in the forthcoming season to boost production after years of limited funding from the inclusive Government, outgoing Agriculture, Mechanisation Irrigation Development Minister Dr Joseph Made has said. Dr Made was speaking at the Mashonaland West provincial Agricultural Show which saw many companies and individuals showcasing their wares.
“Government will be doing all it can this farming season to assist farmers maximise production in line with its thrust which is maximising the utilisation of our natural resources with little impact on the environment,” he said.
Farmers who rely heavily on Government support owing to limited interest from the private sector were dealt a blow from the inception of the inclusive Government as funding was stopped abruptly owing to hostility to anything agricultural from the MDC component in the Government.
What remains, he said, would be for the relevant stakeholders in the various provinces to come up with strategies for the distribution of the assistance they were going to receive and ensuring that it was put to good use.
