THE Government has commissioned and handed over three housing units, built by Kwekwe City Council, under the Urban Renewal Programme.
The houses were built in Mbizo 7 and Mbizo 21.
Addressing a gathering, during the handover ceremony in Mbizo 7, the Kwekwe District development coordinator, Fortune Mupungu, who was representing the Minister of State for Midlands Provincial Affairs, Larry Mavima, said the aim of the Urban Renewal Programme was to provide decent and affordable accommodation to the people.
“The three housing units were constructed using the Devolution Funds in a bid to provide decent and affordable accommodation to residents of this community as a gesture of good social responsibility.
“Out of the allocated devolution funds Kwekwe City has used $267 190.76 to build three decent housing units for Mbizo 7 occupants, which you are witnessing today.
“This shows that Kwekwe City is committed to achieving the objectives of Vision 2030 of providing adequate housing and community services as provided under the Urban Councils Act.
“Government plans to provide thousands of affordable housing units and this event today is a stepping stone towards this noble vision.
“We want it to be known to all Mbizo 7 residents, who have no Council debts, that you will benefit from this initiative of getting affordable and decent accommodation,” said Mupungu.
Kwekwe City has been commended for utilising the devolution funds professionally, with transparency and accountability.
